Tirthankar Mukharjee, Kolkata : On 27 October, 2021 at about 0300 hrs, the troops of BOP Sukhdevpur, 70 BN BSF, SHQ BSF Malda under South Bengal Frontier, BSF apprehended an Indian smuggler with 24 bottles liquor (whisky) valued Rs. appx 23,520/- ,while being tried to smuggle it from India to Bangladesh.
On the basis of intelligence input, an ambush was laid in the general area of the village Sukhdevpur. The ambush party observed movement of some smugglers who were moving towards International boundary from India side carrying small bags.
BSF Ambush party immediately challenged them to stop, but the smugglers fled away from the spot towards India side by taking the advantage of darkness and thick vegetation. Simultaneously the ambush party chased them and managed to apprehend one smuggler namely
Indrajeet Roy, age 30 yrs S/o – Durgesh Roy, vill & Post – Sukhdevpur, PS- Baishnabnagar Distt- Malda (W.B) alongwith 24 bottles liqour (whisky).
During preliminary questioning Indrajeet Roy revealed that he collected these items from Sujeet Roy, age 35 yrs
S/o Dinesh Roy, VPO- Sukhdevpur, PS- Baishnabnagar, Distt – Malda (W.B) and Munna Mandal, age – 32 yrs, S/o- Bablu Mandal, VPO – Hadinagar, PS – Baishnabnagar Distt- Malda (W.B).
Further after crossing the BSF domination line he was directed by the smugglers to handover the items to Rony Shiekh, age- 30 yrs, S/o- Mohabbat Sheikh, village- Kiranganj, PO- Vinodpur PS – Shivganj, Distt- Chapainawabganj, Bangladesh.The apprehended person along with seized items handed over to PS Baishnabnagar for legal action.
The Public relations officer stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his troops on duty.
