BSF APPREHENDED INDIAN SMUGGLER WITH 06 GOLD BISCUITS WORTH RS 35.36 LAKH ON THE INDO-BANGLADESH BORDER

Tirthankar Mukharjee, Kolkata : On 18 November, 2021, BSF troops of South Bengal Frontier apprehended an Indian smuggler with 06 Gold biscuits. The total weight of seized Gold Biscuit is 699 grams and the total value is 35,36,520/-. The seized Gold biscuits were being smuggled to India from Bangladesh through the area of Border Out Post Hakimpur, ​​112 Battalion, North 24 Parganas district.

On November 18, 2021, at around 1830 hrs, on the basis of specific information, the troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, detained a toto Rickshaw at the check post which was moving from Tarali village to Swarupadah village. During search of the Toto rickshaw, 06 Gold biscuits were recovered from the battery box under the back seat of the toto rickshaw.

The total weight of seized gold turned out to be 699 grams. The Border Security Force troops apprehended the smuggler identified as 1) Suman Mandal, age 28 years, S/o Golam Mandal, Village Hakimpur, Thana- Swaroop Nagar, District- North 24 Parganas.

During preliminary interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he does petty smuggling for his survival. He revealed that on 18 November 2021, he received these 06 Gold biscuits from Sirajul Dalal (Village- Bhadili, Thana- Kolarao, District- Satkhira, Bangladesh) near Sonai river. After crossing the duty point of BSF, it was to be handed over to smuggler at Swaroopda village.

The apprehended person has been handed over to Customs Office Tetulia along with the seized items for further legal action.

The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier has expressed happiness over the achievement of 112 Battalion in which the troops have seized 06 gold biscuits and apprehended 01 Indian smuggler. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by the troops on duty.
