BORDER SECURITY FORCE THWARTED THE ATTEMPTS OF SMUGGLERS, APPREHENDED AN INDIAN SMUGGLER

Tirthankar Mukharjee, Nadia : On 4th December, 2021 at about 0330 hrs, under South Bengal Frontier, alert troops of Border Out Post Nawada, 70 Battalion, Sector Malda apprehended an Indian smuggler with 125 bottles of Phensedyl. The value of the seized Phensedyl in the Indian market is estimated as Rs 23,500/-.

On 4th December, 2021, based on intelligence inputs, an ambush was sited in the general area of ​​village Nawada. Immediately, after having taken position on the ground, the Ambush party noticed the movement of some smugglers with small bags, who were moving towards the border from India.

The Ambush Party challenged them to stop but the smugglers fled from the spot towards India side by taking advantage of the darkness, fog and dense forest. The Ambush party chased them and managed to catch one of the smugglers.

The identity of the apprehended smuggler is Sohail Islam, age 23 years, S/o Bishu Rahmani, village Gopalnagar, Post Sasani, PS Kaliachak, District Malda, West Bengal.

During preliminary interrogation, Sohail Islam revealed that he had collected these Phensedyl bottles from Saddam Miya, age 28 years, S/o Majrul Miya, village Ghoshtol, Post Churiantpur, PS Kaliachak, District Malda, West Bengal and further wanted to be handed over to Kausar SK, age 30 years, S/o Muntu SK, village Bagichapar, PS Shivganj, District Chapainabganj, Bangladesh. For this work he was to get 1000/- rupees.

The apprehended smuggler along with the seized items has been handed over to the Police Station Kaliachak for further legal action.

Public Relations Officer encouraged the troops of 70 Battalion and stated that our jawans are committed to completely stop smuggling in the area. Due to the vigilance and understanding of the troops, 125 bottles of Phensedyl have been seized.
