Border Security Force apprehended 01 Indian smuggler with silver ornaments worth Rs 11.6 lakh on Border.

Tirthankar Mukharjee, Kolkata : North 24 Parganas:* On 10 August, 2021, Border Security Force under South Bengal Frontier apprehended 01 Indian smuggler along with 22.24 kg of silver ornaments while he was illegally trying to cross from India to Bangladesh side through the responsibility area of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, North 24 Parganas. The value of the seized silver ornaments is Rs.11,60,877/-.

On 10 August, 2021 at around 1205 hrs, based on intelligence inputs, the Company Commander of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata formed a special team and launched an operation. Around 1215 hrs, the operation party noticed the activities of some suspicious person in the jute fields near the International Boundary.

BSF’s operation party surrounded the jute field from all sides and apprehended a person with one bag. On opening the bag, 24 packets of silver ornaments were recovered whose total weight was 22.24 kg. The apprehended person has been identified as 1) Mahibar Saji, age- 25 years, S/o- Late Maujahar Saji, Village- Hakimpur Uttarpara, Post Office- Hakimpur, Police Station- Swaroop Nagar, District- North 24 Parganas, West Bengal.

During preliminary interrogation, the apprehended person revealed that he is an Indian national and does petty smuggling work for his survival. Today he had taken these ornaments from Asharul (Village- Bithari Bazar, Post Office – Hakimpur, PS– Swaroopnagar) and further moved towards village Hakimpur Uttarpara to hand over the consignment to Jahangir (Village Bahaduli, Post Office- Bahaduli, PS- Kalrua, District- Satkhira). He further revealed that he would have got ₹ 500 for this work but the BSF troops apprehended him on the way.

The apprehended person alongwith seized silver ornaments has been handed over to the Customs Office Tetulia for further legal action.

Narayan Chand, Commanding Officer, 112 Battalion has rejoiced at the achievements of its troops, as a result of which 112 Battalion has seized 22.24 kg of silver ornaments along with 01 Indian smuggler. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by his troops on duty.
