Tirthankar Mukharjee,North 24 Pargana : On 24 October 2021, Border Security Force under South Bengal Frontier apprehended an Indian national with 2.86 kgs of Silver jewelery with a total value of Rs 1,34,778/- which he was trying to cross through the Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, North 24 Parganas district.
On 24 October, 2021 at around 1205 hrs, based on reliable information, the troops of Border Out Post Hakimpur, 112 Battalion, Sector Kolkata, while on duty saw a motorcycle coming towards Hakimpur village from Bithari Bazar.
The troops on duty stopped the motorcycle and searched it. During the search, a packet was found from the clothes of the person riding motorcycle, which was wrapped with yellow tape. As soon as the packet was opened, 2.86 kg of Silver jewelery was recovered from it.
The person has been identified as Uttam Ghosh, age 35 years, S/o Late Satyapriya Ghosh, village- Hakimpur, Post Office- Hakimpur, PS- Swaroop Nagar, District- North 24 Parganas.
During preliminary questioning, the apprehended person revealed that he does petty smuggling work for his survival. He further revealed that on 24 October, 2021 he had taken this packet from Pankaj Biswas, village- Basirhat, Post Office Basirhat, PS- Basirhat, Distt- North 24 Parganas and was to furthe hand over to Amirul dalal village- Bhadayal Uttar, Post Office- Kerro, PS- Kaero, Distt Satkhira, Bangladesh after crossing the duty point of Border Security Force. But he was apprehended by Border Security Force personnel as he was trying to cross the Hakimpur check post.
The apprehended person has been handed over to Customs Tentulia along with the Silver ornaments.
The Public Relations Officer, South Bengal Frontier has expressed happiness over the achievement of 112 Battalion in seizing 2.86 Kgs of Silver jewelery along with 01 Indian national. He stated that this has been possible only because of the alertness displayed by the troops on duty.
