South Bengal Frontier, troops of BSF apprehended 02 Indian smugglers along with 30 gold biscuits near the International Boundary on July 19, 2021. The total weight of the seized gold biscuits is 3499.78 grams, whose estimated price in the Indian market is Rs 1,72,60,420/-. There was an attempt to bring all these Gold biscuits from Bangladesh to India through smuggling from the area of ICP Petrapole, 179 Battalion in North 24 Parganas district.
On 19 July, 2021 the troops of BSF were on a routine search operation near ICP Petrapole (International Boundary) railway crossing in the course of daily routine duty. Around 1015 hrs, the Border Security Force troops observed a suspected motorcyclist (smuggler) going out of the parking area towards Jayantipur in suspicious condition.
When the BSF Search Party intercepted the motorcyclist (smuggler) and searched, 30 Gold biscuits were found hidden inside his clothes by tying around his waist.Immediatly the Search Party seized the Gold biscuits. Along with this, the smugglers were also taken into custody for further interrogation. Identity of both the smugglers is as below:
I) Suman Tarafdar, Age – 29 years, Village – Jayantipur / Petrapole, District – North 24 Parganas.
ii) Aashiq Haldar, age- 23 years, village- Kalyani/ Petrapole, District- North 24 Parganas.
During questioning the apprehended smuggler Suman Tarafdar, revealed that he is a truck driver by profession. He further revealed that he keeps going to Bangladesh from time to time with the truck ( NL 0 1 K 3302 )of Fukto company. Presently, he went to Bangladesh on July 15 with the export goods of Tata Company and left the truck at ICP Benapole and came back to Jayantipur (India).
But today (July 19) he again went to Benapole (Bangladesh) and taking 30 Gold biscuits from Benapole resident Karim Bhai(Gold smuggler). On the pretext of fever, he was returning to India at 1000 hrs in the morning. When he was going back to Jayantipur with his motorcycle from the parking area in front of the Main bhawan , BSF apprehended him with 30 Gold biscuits during checking near the railway crossing inside the ICP.
The apprehended smuggler along with the seized Gold biscuits has been handed over to Customs Office Petrapole for further legal proceedings.Commanding Officer of 179 Battalion spoke to Customs about this matter
Shri Arun Kumar, Commanding Officer of 179 battalion interacted with Customs officials at ICP Petrapole to prevent smuggling in the guise of Import and Export Vehicles and personal belongings of passengers, so that any form of smuggling under the guise of baggage could not be take place.
